CONNECTICUT, USA — Connecticut leaders issued statements on the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk Wednesday, condemning the act of political violence.

Kirk founded the youth group Turning Point USA, which promotes and defends conservative positions on school campuses nationwide, including in Connecticut . According to the Associated Press, he was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University and later died of his injuries.

A university spokesperson reported that the shooter has not been arrested despite a report of someone in custody, the AP said.

In honor Kirk, President Donald Trump ordered U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff at the White House and on all public buildings and grounds, military posts, naval stations and naval vessels until Sept. 14.
