A Brisbane man has been charged with terrorism offences after he was allegedly found in the possession of nationalist and racist material.

Police allegedly found violent extremist material linked to a prescribed terror organisation during a search of the 18-year-old's property at The Gap on Tuesday.

Electronic devices holding a "large amount of data, books associated with nationalist and racist violent extremism, and chemicals and precursors" were also seized, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) alleges.

The man's arrest was the result an investigation by a joint taskforce made up of Queensland and federal police, in conjunction with the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO).
