Plans for a house in multiple occupation (HMO) that would result in a “miserable existence”, according to one councillor, have been refused.

Labour Councillor Ian Blades made the comments during a meeting of Middlesbrough Council ’s planning committee, which heard about plans that, if approved, would have seen a two bedroom property transformed into a three bed HMO. Councillor sentiment towards the plans was overwhelmingly negative, with Liberal Democrat Councillor Morgan McClintock asking why the plans had even been brought in front of the committee.
