The man suspected of setting the fire that killed two people in their Queens home is in custody, police said Wednesday.
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Jamel McGriff was taken into custody in Midtown Manhattan Wednesday.
Frank Olton, 77, and his wife, Maureen Olton, 78, were found dead in their Bellerose home on 254th Street after firefighters extinguished the fire, police said. Officials said the fire broke out around 3:20 p.m. Monday.
The NYPD began searching for McGriff after he was seen leaving the Oltons' home five hours after being seen entering. Police said McGriff knocked on doors in the neighborhood, pretending to need help until he gained entry.
