GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — On World Suicide Prevention Day, a West Michigan nonprofit is sharing how its “Zero Suicide Initiative” aims to prevent anyone from falling through the cracks.
Suicide is the 11th leading cause of death in the United States and the second-leading cause of death for people ages 10-34, according to Hope Network. The organization’s Zero Suicide Initiative is a framework that brings better tools, screening and procedures to people who may be struggling with suicidal thoughts.
“We know that the numbers continue to rise year over year and the Zero Suicide Initiative is one way that we are helping to hopefully reduce that number,” said Rachael Vitale, director of behavioral health grants at Hope Network. “The Zero Suicide Initiative is a way to improve suicide care
