FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer said he's "deeply saddened" and "outraged" about conservative influencer Charlie Kirk's death on Wednesday.

Kirk, who was 31, died after being shot while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

A single gunshot was fired at 12:20 p.m., and videos online showed Kirk reaching for his neck with his right hand as he bled heavily.

According to the Commissioner of the Utah Department of Public Safety, Beau Mason, Kirk was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle, where he later died.

Dyer said that no matter what one's political beliefs are, there is no place in our society for this type of hate.

"We must be able to have honest conversations and even disagreements without resorting to violence," he said.
