PITTSBURGH —
Terry McGartland, whose grandfather came through Ellis Island in 1899, is preparing to travel to Ireland with his family to cheer on the Pittsburgh Steelers and reconnect with relatives.
McGartland, who has visited Ireland before, said much has changed since his last trip in 1978 when he kissed the Blarney Stone. Advertisement
His passion for the Steelers is nearly as strong as his pride in his Irish heritage.
"Well, we're very proud of it. We're extremely proud of it. You know, my son and I both belong to the AOH, the Ancient Order of Hibernians -- members of the Irish club down in Pitcairn. And so,we really celebrate our heritage. And proud of," McGartland said. He added that his father's brothers gravitated to Pittsburgh, working at Westinghouse and U.S. Steel.
