PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man spent last week in Clackamas County jail for arguing with a judge over a seatbelt ticket.
The dispute began in 2022 when Tracy Wayne Hevern, 63, was issued a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt, according to a press release.
When Hevern appeared in Canby Municipal Court in August 2022, he admitted to not wearing a seatbelt but said the law was unconstitutional.
He said that since children on school buses aren't required to wear seatbelts, he shouldn't have to either, according to the release.
The judge said he should he should address his concerns about the law with legislators, and found him guilty. Hevern yelled repeatedly, so the judge increased his fine and ordered him to return to the courtroom. He failed to comply and then struggled with officers.
