CHICAGO (WGN) — At the Gold Star Families (GSF) Memorial Wall, every name represents a story.
Each one represents a story of duty, bravery, and ultimately, sacrifice.
For Chicago police officer Krystal Rivera, her story took a turn for the worst in June when she was killed in the line of duty, a victim of friendly fire from a fellow officer.
"She chose a profession where she put her safety below the safety of everyone in the city," Chicago Police Department Supt. Larry Snelling said.
On Wednesday, her name became the latest addition to the GSF Memorial Wall, which honors fallen CPD officers, dating back to when the department was founded in 1835.
