He's subtitled his own book A Passionate History of Australia and Bob Katter's biographer would agree that passion for his causes is one thing the long-serving politician has in spades.

Elizabeth - better known as Betsy - Fysh released her authorised biography of Mr Katter just days before his outburst at a media conference in Brisbane that made headlines nationally, and she says she's not sure if she can shed any light on the incident.

"What I drew from it was Bob saying that people who come here owe their first allegiance to Australia, and that they should leave their grievances behind," she said.

"And no matter where they're from, they should think of themselves as Australian.

"I suspect it was the suggestion that his Australian-ness was compromised [that upset him]."
