The Social Security Administration (SSA) will stop issuing paper checks for Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits starting Tuesday, Sept. 30.
Currently, less than 1% of beneficiaries receive their payments through paper check, according to the SSA. Those still receiving paper checks must transition to electronic payment methods to continue receiving their benefits without interruption.
Beneficiaries have two primary options for electronic payments: Direct deposit into a bank account or the Direct Express prepaid debit card. The SSA is contacting recipients to provide information on how to make the switch.
