The Waverly City Council will move forward with investigating different ownership and management options for current city-owned subsidized housing, it decided during a joint meeting with the city’s Municipal Housing Commission Sept. 8.
While no proposals were on the table and no official action was taken during the exchange of information, the two groups agreed that the current situation regarding the properties is not working well, including its governance by a volunteer board.
“I don’t know that we’re very good landlords as a city,” said James Bronner, Waverly city administrator. “I don’t think that’s one of the things that we do well, and we’re starting to see that as the years progress.”
