Mac Jones could very well be the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2.

Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Wednesday that Brock Purdy could miss several weeks due to shoulder and toe injuries and is a “long shot” to play Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.

With Purdy sidelined, Jones is “ in line ” to get the start.

This is Jones’ first season in San Francisco after he signed a two-year deal with the team in March after spending a not-so-great 2024 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Before that, Jones spent his first three years with the New England Patriots .

But things didn’t go well in New England . After a promising rookie season in 2021, Jones couldn’t build off that year, regressed and struggled to find a groove under center.
