INDIAN BEACH, N.C. (WITN) - What once was filled with decade-old trees and a fun beach experience for beach-goers is now a cleared lot full of dirt and tree piles.

The former Salter Path campground in Indian Beach has been vacant for over a decade, but in 2023, developer Fred Bund purchased the property to begin construction for 137 housing units.

“They had a project where they wanted to develop both sides of the highway. We went through several public hearings and got a lot of public input, and the council finally approved it in June of 2023,” Indian Beach town manager Time White said.

For visitors like David Ghgnon, who’s been visiting Indian Beach for decades, he says he hopes people who move in will enjoy the beach like himself.
