AUSTIN, Texas — A judge is reviewing a lawsuit that aims to stop a major expansion of Interstate 35 in Austin.
Advocacy group Rethink35 is suing TxDOT, claiming the department didn't properly consider the health and environmental impacts of the project.
The I-35 Capital Express Central Project adds two high occupancy vehicles lanes in each direction from U.S. 290 East to State Highway 71. While the project is already underway, the nonprofit Rethink35 has been fighting the expansion ever since it got proposed.
Miriam Schoenfield is a board member with Rethink35.
"Worsening congestion, worsening air quality, and the community didn't like it," Schoenfield said.
