The Claremont School Board has decided to delay a decision on closing an elementary school as the district faces a multimillion-dollar budget shortfall.

Just weeks into the school year, discussions emerged about permanently closing Bluff Elementary School.

The principal of Bluff Elementary School sent a letter to staff members saying that the school might close because it can no longer meet its legal obligation to provide special education services.

School leaders say Bluff Elementary is stretched thin, particularly when it comes to resources for special education.

"The way our staff are distributed and the needs of the students are not matching up, and we're not gonna be able to meet those needs in the current configuration," said one school board member.
