ALAMOGORDO, N.M. —

A police investigation is ongoing after remains recovered near U.S. Highway 70 were confirmed to be human.

Alamogordo police responded to the human remains at the 1400 block of U.S. 70. The remains were confirmed to be human by the Alamogordo Police Department investigations division and New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau Crime Scene Team.

The remains were taken into custody by the state Office of the Medical Investigator for an autopsy to be done. The response and investigation started on Wednesday morning, Sept. 10.
