Boston Mayor Michelle Wu's bid for reelection took a big step forward on Tuesday as she advanced to November's general with a commanding lead over Josh Kraft .

The pair will face off again in the upcoming election, but knowing that Wu took 72% of the vote, to Kraft's 23%, according to still-to-be-certified returns from the city.

That lead eclipses those of the last two incumbent Boston mayors at the same stage of their races. Marty Walsh went into his reelection campaign with 62% of the 2017 preliminary vote, while Wu's mentor, Tom Menino, claimed 51% of the vote in 2009 on his way to winning a fifth term in office.
