COLUMBUS, Ohio — Republican students and political leaders across Ohio are mourning the death of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed earlier Wednesday in what appears to be a politically motivated assassination.
Kirk, 31, was shot in the neck while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University, according to video taken at the scene. Utah's governor called the shooting a "political assassination" in a press conference Wednesday evening.
The conservative activist was scheduled to return to Ohio in two weeks to speak at the Center for Christian Virtue’s annual gala in Cleveland. Instead, students at The Ohio State University say they are now planning a vigil in his memory.
