Members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) held a lunchtime rally Wednesday at the south entrance of Canadore’s College Drive Campus to garner support for their ongoing contract negotiations.
If a deal is not reached by midnight, the union will be able to legally strike. There are 10,000 full-time college support workers across all 24 Ontario colleges. Each local held a rally today.
Brandon Davis, president of OPSEU Local 658, does not want it to come to a strike. “We’re holding a rally to show support for the bargaining team to fight for the preservation of the future of our public college system,” Davis said.
The contract negotiations are not between the locals and the individual colleges. Negotiations occur between the union’s bargaining committee and the College E
