(WREX) — Famous right-wing activist and political commentator Charlie Kirk died on Wednesday after being shot while speaking at a rally.

Kirk was speaking at Utah Valley University when thousands gathered to hear him. Moments after answering a question from the crowd, a single gunshot rang out.

Just a few hours after the incident, President Trump confirmed Kirk had passed away at the age of 31.

Kirk’s message inspired Republican students across the U.S., including Jayden Gallagly of Belvidere who was part of a local high school chapter of Turning Point USA, the nonprofit founded by Kirk. Now a college student at Rock Valley College, Gallagly says he is devastated by the news.
