Change is in the air, at least possibly for black bears and how they eat.
In preparation for the coming winter months, the eating behavior of black bears changes, according to the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission.
Bear sightings in Rowan County, while not considered unusual, “are uncommon,” said Jason M. Allen, wildlife biologist operations supervisor for the Piedmont Region.
Since Sept. 1, 2023, three bear sightings have been reported to the Human Wildlife Interaction helpline in Rowan County, said Allen.
