SEATTLE — The missed opportunities earlier in the game that let it linger late into the night and deep into extra innings caught up with the Cardinals long before an unlikely Seattle Mariner walked off with a win.

The Cardinals and Mariners exchanged runs through the first 12 innings Wednesday night. Thomas Saggese's fourth hit of the game brought up the Cardinals' second run, and the Mariners' answered in the 11th with a run of their own.

That same knot, tight at 2-2, reached the bottom of the 13th inning.

It lasted a pitch.

Leo Rivas, who entered the game as a pinch-runner, led off the 13th with a walk-off home run to send the Mariners to a 4-2 victory at T-Mobile Park. In the on-field interview immediately following the winner, Rivas said he was "trying to move the runner over." The
