NORTH HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Police shot and killed an armed man after an encounter in North Hills on Wednesday.

Los Angeles police said officers responded to two calls from community members reporting a man in the area with a gun and an assault with a deadly weapon around 5:20 p.m.

The man was reportedly threatening another person with a bottle and a gun.

When officers arrived at the 405 Freeway and Parthenia Street, they found and confronted the armed man, and that's when shots were fired.

The man was struck by gunfire and taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Capt. Mike Bland with LAPD.

Investigators reportedly recovered a handgun at the scene.

Bland said no officers or other people were injured in the shooting. It's unclear if the man fired
