LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Animal advocates shared their reactions after a judge sentenced the man who pleaded guilty to Reba the bulldog's death to prison.
"Her life mattered," Lindsey Pinapfel of Vegas Pet Rescue Project said of Reba. "Her suffering mattered."
The sentencing was an emotional moment for those who loved Reba, as Laushaul Junior was sentenced to 16 months to four years in prison on Wednesday.
Isaac Laushaul Jr., 33, has a credit of 278 days served, so if he serves the minimum sentence, he will serve slightly more than a year. He accepted a plea deal, admitting to a felony count of cruelty to animals last month.
In a statement, Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson called the crime one that "shocked the conscience."
"It really sends a message out there," Pinapfel said.
