After 89 years of hosting greyhound races , the historic Dapto greyhound racetrack will hold its final meeting tonight.
The iconic track - popularly known as the Dapto Dogs - opened in 1937 on the NSW South Coast and became the first club in the state to introduce night racing under lights two years later.
Officials at the club are expecting a big turnout tonight as people return to the track for one final memory since the first race in February 1937.
The closure of the track follows Greyhound Racing NSW's decision not to renew the Dapto Showground lease, which ends in June next year.
The decision was then made in collaboration with the club's feature event, the Group 1 Ladbrokes Dapto Megastar, to make tonight the final race meeting.
