Kat Lowder, a former news producer at WISH-TV, had just completed her overnight shift on Sept. 4, 2025, when the company's human resources informed her that her contract had been terminated the day before.

Lowder was one of the more than 20 employees let go from Circle City Broadcasting , the parent company of WISH-TV, last week, after the company terminated people who did not sign a new contract addendum with an expanded non-compete clause. Some additional employees were let go after not receiving a new contract offer.

She and a handful of other employees believed that they had been spared from the "bloodbath" from the day prior. But their fates were only delayed: They were presented with termination papers after spending eight hours producing the morning newscast.
