Conservative activist Charlie Kirk has died, according to his nonprofit, Turning Point USA.

Kirk was shot when speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on Wednesday, as part of the organization's "American Comeback Tour," the organization confirmed.

"We ask that everyone keep his family and loved ones in your prayers," its website said.

Authorities are still searching for a suspect. Here's what we know so far.

He had only been speaking for a few minutes

The university confirmed Kirk was shot at 12:10 p.m. local time, 10 minutes after the event started. A shot was fired from a building about 200 yards away from Kirk, it said.

"He was hit and taken from the location by his security," it said.
