A pair of crosstown foes will renew one of the oldest football rivalries in Lane County this week.

South Eugene (0-1) is set to host North Eugene (1-1) in a Midwestern League showdown at 7 p.m. Sept. 12. Although both programs are coming off Week 1 losses, the Axe and Highlanders will each enter the clash with a sense of optimism and hopes of making an early season statement.

"It's exciting," South Eugene first-year coach Eric Scott said. "These are the types of games you usually don't get until later on in the season, because you usually get those two nonconference games. But because of the way our schedule shook out, we didn't get a jamboree — it was canceled. So, being able to lick our wounds, come back from that and get right after it against a rival really helps the practice week."
