BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) - Gov. Kelly Armstrong has ordered flags across North Dakota to be flown at half-staff Thursday in solemn tribute to the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The directive applies to all U.S. and North Dakota flags on government property and encourages residents and businesses statewide to follow suit. The observance marks 24 years since the attacks that claimed nearly 3,000 lives and reshaped the nation’s sense of security.

“As Americans, our lives were changed forever when evil struck our nation,” Armstrong said in a statement. “We continue to observe 9/11 in honor of the innocent victims, the heroes who gave their lives and those who continue to be affected by the tragic events of that fateful day.”
