Finally, after four long and difficult years, city hall finally figured out what Calgary is about.

Better late than never, some might say. Others will say it’s too little too late. But if we don’t support our civic administration when it gets it right, we lose the right to scorn them when messing up.

Of course, it should never have been this difficult. But when you become so intent on diminishing the past, you invariably lose sight of the present and what it owes to those who came before.

Such history explains why Calgary was never big on grandiose pronouncements, virtue signalling or spendthrift politicians trying to build their own legacy using our tax dollars. Different lyrics today, but the tune remains the same.
