PLAY has been suspended at the BMW PGA Championship due to the threat of lightning.

The event is being held at the Wentworth Club in Surrey .

The event's social media pages issued an update informing fans of the suspension.

Play began today with Tom Vaillant the early frontrunner on eight under, ahead of Ludvig Aberg in second.

English pair Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose are in the top five.

Rory McIlroy was one under and Tommy Fleetwood evens, the latter aiming for his second PGA win after getting off the mark at the Tour Championship last month.

It was a star-studded start to the event on Wednesday as golf stars teamed up with celeb royalty in the Pro-Am.
