One of Australia’s largest retail stores has stirred up the classic debate about when it is appropriate to sell holiday items, and how they should be decorated.

Both Woolworths and Big W began to release their annual Christmas food items and home wares last week — months earlier than the actual summer holiday.

On Reddit, a poster uploaded two photos of snow covered decorations including a new Christmas tree at Big W, sparking the conversation about when they should be sold.

“I assume that means Hot Cross Buns should be out for the footy Grand Finals?” the poster said.

Many others commenting on the Reddit post didn’t mind the Christmas items being out so early, with many commenting that this helps them budget for what is a notoriously expensive time of year.
