TRUSSVILLE, Ala. —
Roy Williams still remembers what he calls the ten agonizing days it took to find and identify his brother after the 9/11 attack at the Pentagon.
His brother, Dwayne, was an Alabama native and a US Army major.
For years, Roy was overcome by grief each year on 9/11, but decided to honor his memory a little differently in 2024.
"For 22 years before last year's concert, Sept. 11th was the day I dreaded. I had a fake smile on my face, but I had a lot of pain inside," said Roy.
With the help of a friend, Roy started a 9/11 tribute concert called 'Take Back the Day' and made it a celebration of his brother's life rather than a reminder of how he died.
It's also a promise to his mother, who has Alzheimer's, that he will not let his brother's memory be forgotten.
