JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As authorities continue their search after the gunman who killed conservative activist Charlie Kirk while he was speaking at an event in Utah on Wednesday, the First Coast community and Florida leaders are speaking out about the incident Utah Gov. Spencer Cox called a "political assassination."

At a press conference Thursday morning, officials with the FBI and Utah Department of Public Safety confirmed that the suspected weapon used to kill Kirk was recovered from the woods near Utah Valley University, where he was speaking.

Officials also released new details about the shooter, saying he appeared to be a man in his late teens or early 20s.
