CONWAY, S.C. (WCSC) - A Charleston County man was sentenced to over a decade in prison in connection with last year’s Myrtle Beach shooting.

Xavier Christopher Knight, 27, pleaded guilty to assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature on Wednesday in connection with the July 11 shooting.

Officers responded to a call of a reported shooting on Freemount Road in the Longs area of Horry County. Upon arrival, they located a victim who had sustained gunshot wounds to his leg, according to Assistant Solicitor Anthony Dichiara.

After the victim was transported to a nearby hospital, officers arrived and met with the victim and other witnesses, who helped identify Knight as the suspect. Officers said a witness, who was present during the incident, told them that she had known the suspect b
