Community Board 2 members may have already voted largely to support the city’s promises to redevelop Long Island City, but the ramifications remained very much on their minds last Thursday as the plans made their way to the City Council.
The One LIC rezoning plan had moved past the City Planning Commission on Sept. 3, a day before the latest CB 2 meeting, sending it for the final approval of the Council. The zoning would generate some 15,000 new apartments, the city promises, including 4,300 affordable units. It was approved by CB 2 in June, by a vote of 37-7, including recommendations from the board to lower the rates of those affordable units.
A public hearing on the plan is scheduled in front of the Council on Sept. 17.
