These are only some of the pitfalls of early-season upland hunting here in Michigan. Sept. 15 marks this year’s grouse and woodcock opener, but fall doesn’t technically arrive for another week. That said, if you’re a bird hunter, the opener is the unofficial start of autumn, indeed.
