SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A steel column from the World Trade Center stands solemnly inside the front doors of the Spokane Valley Fire Department administration building.

This column serves as a quiet witness to the bravery, sacrifice and loss of September 11, 2001.

Today, as the nation reflects, the Spokane Valley community remembers the lives lost, honors the courage of the first responders and holds close the families who continue to carry the weight of that day.

In the words of President George W. Bush, "We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family member that lives in grief. We will remember."
