Jermain Defoe says he is desperate to return to Rangers in a coaching capacity and reckons a lack of characters in the squad has been the main reason for the club's woes since his exit.
Former England international Defoe was brought to Ibrox on an initial loan deal by Steven Gerrard in January 2019 and after a prolific spell signed for Gers on a permanent basis 18 months later.
He scored four goals in 15 league matches in the 2020/21 season as Gerrard's side romped to the Premiership title without losing a single game.
Defoe left Rangers in January 2022 and after a short spell at former club Sunderland, hung up his boots for good less than two months later.
The 42-year-old is now looking to forge a career in coaching, having successfully obtained all of his badges.
