WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A ceremony was held at the Eternal Flame in West Springfield to honor Melissa Harrington Hughes, a local victim of the 9/11 attacks.
Melissa Harrington Hughes was one of nearly 3,000 Americans who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. She was at the World Trade Center in New York on a business trip when the tragedy occurred.
"It's been 24 years, and to see people continue to come out, and not even continuing to come out but to grow, for the crowds to grow year after year, it shows their commitment to our community, to Melissa and her family," said West Springfield Mayor William Reichelt.
