MUNCIE, Ind. — The president of the Muncie Civil Rights Commission is facing growing pushback over comments he allegedly made about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Steven Knipp was appointed by the Muncie City Council. 13News has been sent screenshots of his alleged comments but has not been able to independently verify that they were made by Knipp.

In the screenshots, someone posting under Knipp's name says of Kirk's killing:

"He deserved this and I hope he is only first!! It is time they reap the hate, fear, and violence they have sown! This man IS the cause of the circumstance. He is neither a victim or a hero."

On the morning of Thursday, Sept. 11, the official City of Muncie Facebook page posted a statement reading:
