Willamette football player Hunter Vaughn is the winner of the Eugene-Springfield area high school boys Athlete of the Week, as voted by Register-Guard readers.

A senior, Vaughn ran for a 13-yard touchdown on the Wolverines' first drive of the season, and later broke loose for a 65-yard punt return touchdown Sept. 5 to help his team to a 34-7 road win over South Medford.

Vaughn received 45.5% of the reader poll votes. Churchill football player Trayshawn Wright was second (22.58%).
