Montana’s political leaders are mourning the loss of Charlie Kirk, the right-wing commentator and activist who was shot and killed at an event in Utah on Wednesday.

Kirk had been scheduled to speak at Montana State University on Oct. 7 as part of his “American Comeback Tour.”

As of Thursday, authorities were still searching for a suspect. Investigators recovered a high-powered Mauser .30-06 bolt-action rifle in a wooded area near the site of the shooting.

Social media quickly erupted with commentary from across the political spectrum as videos of the incident circulated, including what appeared to be a person running along a rooftop seconds after the shot was fired.
