Banjup residents have sought support from the City of Cockburn to stop a proposal they say will bring about 700 homes into their suburb.
The WA Planning Commission wants to rezone about 46.85ha at Lot 709 Armadale Road from ‘rural/water protection’ to ‘urban deferred’ so it can eventually be used for residential development.
The Banjup Residents Group say, if approved, the amendment would allow about 700 homes to be built on the site.
Group representatives sought the city’s support in their fight against the rezoning at its August 12 council meeting.
Group president Corinne Franklin said no land in Banjup had been identified for urban development, while secretary Ian Thurston said more than 70 per cent of the site had been mapped by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation
