Payments from Facebook’s $725 million privacy settlement are now being distributed to eligible users.
Final approval for multiple class-action lawsuits against Meta, Facebook’s parent company, was granted on Sept. 7.
The suits alleged that the social media giant shared user data with third parties without permission. Although Facebook denied these allegations, the company agreed to the settlement in 2023.
Eligibility was limited to U.S. Facebook users who had accounts between May 24, 2007, and Dec. 22, 2022, and claimants had to file by Aug. 25, 2023. Those approved for payments will receive notification via emails from the private settlement administrator, which will contain a claim number needed to track payment progress.
