Update 9/9:

National Park Service officials have identified the firefighter who suffered a fatal cardiac emergency while working on the Dragon Bravo Fire Monday.

J. Hank Hester was 70 years old and from Priest River, Idaho.

He was working on hazardous tree removal near the entrance station to the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park when the incident occurred.

Paramedics rendered emergency aid but resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the Hester family and friends during this very tragic time. Hank is a member of our wildfire family and will be deeply missed,” said Incident Command Matt Rau.

Officials say support is being provided for fellow firefighters and friends.
