GREENE COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) -- Investigators are still searching for answers in an investigation into a Pennsylvania child's homicide nearly 50 years ago.

Pennsylvania State Police are offering a $5,000 reward for anyone who comes forward with information that helps solve the case of eight-year-old Debra "Debbie" Lynn Markel in Greene County.

It was 48 years ago when Markel got on a school bus less than two miles away from Dry Tavern Elementary School and took it to Ferncliff Road in Rice's Landing on Oct. 5, 1973, according to Pennsylvania State Police. She would then walk to her home, which was at the end of Hoy Street, around 3:45 p.m.

Markel had brothers who, investigators said, didn't take the bus that day but instead walked home so they could sell magazine subscriptions for a school
