New York native Gordon Huie grew up near Wall Street.

"[It was] literally a ghost town back then, so there is where I learn to ride a bike, play tag," Huie said.

The financial district of NYC was a memorable and magical place for him, until Sept. 11, 2001. Huie saw and experienced the events of the day firsthand.

"I look up and I see the towers on fire," he said. "I decided to start heading toward the World Trade Center to see if there’s something I can do. When [the North Tower] came down and I came to my senses, I realized there was nothing I could do."

Huie, an orthopedic surgeon and former United States Army medic, says his instinct to help immediately took over.
