NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — During the 9/11 memorial ceremony in Lower Manhattan on Thursday, one victim's family member was met with a round of applause for calling out all New York City mayoral candidates.

While reading a section of names of those who were killed on Sept. 11, 2001, the cousin of late FDNY firefighter Stephen Elliot Belson called on politicians, specifically New York City mayoral candidates, to "renounce terror and violence."

In his call to action, the man alluded to Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani and his controversial stance on the phrase "globalize the intifada."

The man claimed that if New York's political leaders do not openly condemn these kinds of phrases, "they are inviting another 9/11, God forbid."

"You know who I'm talking about," he added.
